Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE: HPE) has announced its definitive agreement to acquire Axis Security, a cloud security provider, to expand its edge-to-cloud security capabilities. According to HPE CEO Antonio Neri, the acquisition of Axis Security by Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) enhances HPE’s edge portfolio, creating the most comprehensive portfolio in the industry. This includes the addition of Secure Access Services Edge (SASE), Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), and Secure Web Gateway (SWG).
The acquisition will enable HPE to offer a unified Secure Access Services Edge (SASE) solution that meets the increasing demand for integrated networking and security solutions delivered as-a-service. Axis Security’s Security Services Edge (SSE) platform addresses the need for improved application performance and increased network security as the number of remote users increases, and as enterprises continue to migrate applications to the cloud. The acquisition will build on Aruba’s existing Software-defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) and network firewall offering, providing a complete edge-to-cloud SASE solution.
This solution will ensure that Zero Trust security controls can be applied to people and devices, no matter where they connect – on-campus, branch, home, or on the road. Phil Mottram, Executive Vice President, and General Manager of HPE Aruba Networking stated that the convergence of Aruba and Axis Security solutions will transform edge-to-cloud connectivity with a comprehensive SASE solution that provides enterprises with the highest levels of security for both IoT devices and all users’ access across geographically distributed locations.
The Axis acquisition provides HPE with a cloud-native Secure Service Edge (SSE) platform that secures applications at the edge and provides secure access to corporate and public cloud resources. The Axis Atmos platform won the 2022 Tech Innovator Award for Secure Service Edge and provides authenticated user access at the edge with SWB, CASB, and a Digital Experience Monitoring (DEM) capability that provides insight into user experiences.
. The acquisition is expected to close in HPE’s second fiscal quarter, ending on April 30, and the terms of the deal were not disclosed. Neri also mentioned that HPE is bringing together the entire connectivity layer with WiFi, LAN, SD-WAN, and private 5G, providing a consistent security framework with SASE, which brings elements of connectivity and the firewall with ZTNA, CASB, and SWG.
Axis To Be Integrated Into GreenLake
HPE’s recent acquisition of private 5G provider Athonet, combined with its Axis portfolio, will be fully integrated into the HPE GreenLake on-premises pay-per-use platform. This integration provides a common security layer on top of private 5G, simplifying the customer experience and offering a differentiated solution compared to competitors who must “stitch together” multiple solutions. HPE plans to make the integrated Axis Security solutions available to customers in the third fiscal quarter.
This acquisition presents increased opportunity for partners in the Aruba intelligent edge market, which grew 25% in the first fiscal quarter. Eli Katz, director of cloud, consumption, and security at New York-based PKA Technologies, called the acquisition a “game-changer” for HPE and Aruba, strengthening their portfolio from a cloud-to-edge perspective. Axis ensures secure connectivity across a full hybrid cloud environment, including public cloud, making it easier for partners to support their customers’ needs. Security has become a top concern for all customers, and cybercrime is a trillion-dollar business. Neri believes that HPE’s acquisition of Axis is another “fantastic acquisition” aligned with industry megatrends.
